Research shows that attention (or mindfulness) training increases the quality of life and produces positive changes in cognitive and neurobiological functioning.
In a mindfulness training session, people learn to view themselves and their environments differently, so they can subsequently respond to situations with less stress. They learn to deal differently with their thoughts, stress and pain. This enables them to handle difficult situations better and learn to deal differently with pain and inconvenience; as a result, they feel better.
There are many mindfulness courses and trainers around. We find it important to give the original Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training, because this has been scientifically proven to be effective. For that reason, we don’t want to change or skimp on this method for no good reason. We also find it important that the training sessions are given by psychologists who have long experience with mindfulness and are certified mindfulness trainers.
During the eight-week course there is a weekly group meeting lasting two and a half hours. In addition, the participants are given exercises that they can do at home each day.]
